Young people aged 25 to 34 are biggest lottery players on the internet in Brazil

According to a survey carried out by Intersena, the first portal in Brazil that made it possible to place bets on the web in official lottery games, young people between the ages of 25 and 34 are the biggest internet lottery players in the country. The analysis was based on access data from bettors to the site in the last six months.

According to data from the Intersena study, the portal's transactions are mostly carried out by young people aged between 25 and 34 years. Then appear young people aged between 18 and 24 years, later is the group of bettors aged 35 to 44 years. In fourth place in the survey appear bettors aged 45 to 54, followed by those aged 55 to 64; and lastly bettors aged 65 or over.

The young public, between 25 and 34 years old, corresponds to a percentage of 37.45% of the Intersena survey. Gamblers between 18 and 24 years old correspond to 26.20% of the gamblers mentioned in the study. Bettors aged between 35 and 44 years represent a percentage of 12.70%.

According to an article published by the Terra website, online betting is growing dramatically in Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce. The public that showed the greatest growth was the 45 to 54 age group, with a 60.17% increase.

This can be seen in the latest Lottery Market and Commercial Promotion Monitoring Bulletin, which encompasses not only online billing but also billing in Caixa's physical lottery networks. The bulletin is a quarterly publication of the Secretariat for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery of the Special Secretariat for Finance of the Ministry of Economy, with the objective of showing, on a quarterly basis, numbers and statistics of lottery products regulated at the federal level, as well as the relative numbers authorized commercial promotions.

In nominal terms, it is observed that the collection of federal lotteries increased from BRL 3.47 billion (US$ 665m) to BRL 4.05 billion (US$ 775m) in the 3rd quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year, an increase of 16%. The study is available on the website of the Federal Government, at the Ministry of Economy.

According to the CEO of Portal Intersena, Thiago Dias, the increase in the number of bets and bettors online is mainly due to the ease and convenience offered.

“The pandemic has helped popularize online lottery games. Brazilians have always had the habit of playing this type of game in physical Caixa lottery stores. With the pandemic, without being able to leave the house, many started to opt for the online format and, seeing that the system is safe and reliable, the bets became popular and today they are increasing more and more,” explained Dias.

Intersena is a pioneer in online convenience for lotteries in Brazil, facilitating betting since 1999, including the special Mega-Sena da Virada contests since its inception in 2009.
