Paulo Gerber: “NFTs and cryptocurrencies to gain space as means of payment in the gaming market”

Today's GMB exclusive on goals and forecasts for 2022 is with Paulo Gerber, CEO of GamersCard, who looks at technology and business trends for the new year. According to him, contactless payments via mobile will be increasingly present, as will the use of NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Gerber says that this firm grew four times in 2021 and expects to double in size in 2022, but that it will continue “to meet the needs of our customers and further evolve our technology and service, making our product increasingly simple and faster to use.”

GMB - What technological advancement trends do you think we will see this year?
Paulo Gerber
- The expectation is that three trends will have the most impact on the market in 2022. First, Contactless, which are payments via mobile, by approximation, that is, payments that no longer need physical interaction. This is already a market movement, but it has intensified because of the pandemic and, in my view, will be increasingly present.

Secondly, we will have the debate and investment of several companies in the security area due to the need to protect user data, even more due to the increase in actions that can generate data leakage and access to finances.

And, finally, the biggest entry of blockchain technology or virtual currencies and assets, that will increasingly be inserted in the means of payment. With blockchain, we will also have a greater entry of NFTs, which need to be held in custody by an “account” with an entire trade process (buying and selling), which must be supported by means of payment; as well as cryptocurrencies, which are becoming popular worldwide and gaining ground in financial negotiations.

How far do you envision the player's customs and requirements to satisfy in 2022?
Our main objective is to meet the needs of our customers, the players. Their needs and requirements make us work to have a high quality product and drive us to deliver more and more an innovative product with more features and benefits.

In 2022, our goal is to continue meeting the needs of our customers, further evolving our technology, service, and making our product increasingly simple and faster to use. Paying is not the bright side when playing, it needs to be simple and fast. Therefore, our focus is to continue offering the best experience for players to evolve in the practice of their favorite games, without worrying about security and agility when buying and depositing their chips.

How do you think the pandemic will affect business results in 2022?
For many businesses, the pandemic ended up “punishing” the result. However, the poker and gaming market had a significant increase in every way: number of tournaments, new players and market evolution. With GamersCard it was no different.

We had a significant growth in customers and transactions, in addition to the launch of GamersWallet, our digital wallet made for the Poker audience. In 2022, our expectations could not be better. We have many opportunities, with news coming around. In addition to continuing to work on the constant evolution of our products, by the end of this year we will have more launches for our audience.

Which markets and/or countries do you see as the greatest chances for progress and opportunities for growth?
Currently, our focus is to evolve in the Brazilian market, which still has a lot of space to be explored. Our intention is to bring the best service to the players here in Brazil and then we can think about new territories.

Do you think gaming advertising restrictions will be deepened globally?
The main point should not be the restriction of advertising to gaming, but the search for constant care from all parties involved to stimulate the game in a conscious and responsible way.

 



What do you envision for the Brazilian market in terms of gambling legislation and regulation?
This is an issue that has been gaining a lot of space on the political agenda in Brazil and I believe it can bring many benefits to the Brazilian market. Among them: investments, jobs, increased tourism and taxes. Above all, the release of gaming in general represents respect for people's freedom to exercise and enjoy their hobbies in a regulated and organized way.

What are your company's main goals for the year? Are you planning more releases than in 2021?
Yes, we have a lot of news in the works. Which will be released and released throughout the year.

To reach your goals this year, do you plan to make more investments and hires than last year?
In the last two years, our company has quadrupled in size. The perspective for the year 2022 is to at least double the size of the team.

What kind of sponsorships or marketing actions to promote your company's products and services do you think will be the most relevant this year within your roadmap?
This year we will continue to sponsor the BSOP series, bringing better service and convenience to our customers. We will also continue to reinforce our brand, products and their benefits, through our ambassadors and actions aimed at digital marketing.

In your view of the global market, do you consider that 2022 intends to be a year with more mergers or acquisitions of companies than the previous year?
The world will increasingly observe the arrival of new companies, as well as the realization of new mergers and acquisitions, which is something that has already been happening in recent years.

Entrepreneurship is increasingly on the rise and, in my view, for this reason, the volume of shares is always growing, which is great.
