Brazil's Deputies Chamber President would use remote session to approve gaming bill

The president of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), signaled to allies that he can put to vote next week the Bill that legalizes gambing in the country. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chamber resumed voting through the remote system. In the view of the supporters of the proposal, this scenario favors the approval of the text, since parliamentarians would be less susceptible to pressure from social networks.

Despite this, leaders from the evangelical bench and from parties such as PSL, PSC, Republicans, and DEM have already signaled to Lira that they would not like to "spend energy" on a matter that has no consensus among deputies and that faces resistance from the Planalto Palace.

This matter needs to be debated face to face. It's a complex topic. We cannot be subject to setbacks and we have several regimental devices that can only be used in face-to-face sessions,” told to local media O Antagonista Deputy Marco Feliciano (PL-SP), who intends to ask for a meeting with Lira to address the issue.
