Sportsbet.io breaks contract with Flow after Monark's statement about Nazism

On Tuesday afternoon (8), online sports betting platform Sportsbet.io announced the termination of the sponsorship contract with Flow Studios. At the time, the betting house only sponsored Flow Sport Club. The platform's decision came after Bruno 'Monark', the show's presenter, defended the legalization of a Nazi party in Brazil.

Sportsbet.io announced on Tuesday afternoon that it will also terminate its contract with Flow Sport Club. "The statements go totally against the values that the brand defends," said the company, in a statement.

Monark's statement caused an uproar on the Internet. Former Flamengo athlete Zico, who was on this week's Flow Sport Club schedule, canceled his participation in the program, due to Monark's speeches. In addition to Zico, several personalities from the sports world have already spoken out against the opinions of the podcast presenter.

In taking a position, the host of the Monark podcast argued that the formal organization of a Nazi party would be supported by freedom of expression. The statement was countered by Tabata, who highlighted that this freedom ends when it manifests itself against the lives of other people.

The Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro was responsible for supporting a section of the show, the Flow Sport Club, which broadcast the football matches of the Carioca Championship. In a statement, the entity announced the breakup and said it was "contrary to any kind of prejudice."

Through a video published on its networks, clothing brand Insider Store also announced the suspension "of any type of partnership with the Flow Podcast." In the message recorded by one of the store's co-founders, Yuri Gricheno, the company also demands that Monark leave the program to re-discuss a possible new contract.

The movement against Monark's statements on social media was led by the group Jews for Democracy, which, like Sleeping Giants, started directing appeals to the program's advertisers and sponsors.

Mondelez Brasil, which owns the BIS brand, spoke at the end of the morning, repudiating discrimination and racism, and clarifying that it only financed two episodes of the show in 2021 and that it had already requested the exclusion of the brand among Flow sponsors.

The sports brand Puma also commented in a similar way, arguing that it has already requested the exclusion of its name from the list of sponsors.
