Deputy Newton Cardoso defended the cause

Gaming legalization is again a topic of debate in Chamber's Tourism Commission

During a meeting of the Chamber's Tourism Commission, Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr. once again defended the legalization of the gaming sector in Brazil. When talking about the book ‘Brasil, você tá duro porque quer’ (Brazil, you’re broken because you wnt), by Luiz Carlos Prestes, he said the country “needs to take steps in favor of this activity that continues to exist. As Deputy Bacelar says, in Brazil we do not prohibit gaming, we prohibit jobs and collection of taxes arising from this activity.”

In a meeting at the Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Newton Cardoso Jr. (MDB-MG), one of the biggest advocates of the legalization of gaming in Brazil, once again highlighted the importance of the activity to support tourism and society as a whole. “As Deputy Bacelar (PV-BA) says, we do not prohibit gaming, we prohibit jobs and the collection of taxes arising from this activity,” he declared.

Newton Cardoso commented that he will ask for a special audience to present the book ‘Brasil, você tá duro porque quer’ (Brazil, you’re broken because you want), by Luiz Carlos Prestes, of which he is the author of one of the chapters, and who congratulates the journalist for the publication that, in a very appropriate way, dealt with the Brazilian vision of the legalization of the sector. “For this reason, I once again defend the activity for the benefit of tourism. We need to take steps in favor of this activity that continues to exist.”

The deputy also stated that during a meeting of the Finance and Taxation Commission, a public hearing was approved to reduce fuel prices, which have a strong impact on tourism, especially on account of aviation fuel.

There is an impact in the fiscal sphere with the reduction of collection and, for this reason, he said that “it is incoherent to want to reduce tax collection and at the same time do not ideologically accept the approval of an activity [gaming] that can contribute more of R$ 30 billion and still synergistically strengthen Brazilian tourism.”

Therefore, I appeal once again so that in this House we can work for an activity that already works, but which is not legalized and which contributes to ending hunger in many families in Brazil, but which is not seen with good eyes. May we overcome this difficulty by legalizing the gaming sector, increasing revenue and contributing to the growth of tourism and the national GDP,” he added.

Finally, he defended that Brazil does not miss the “tram of history and this opportunity presents itself, which is to have a source of revenue for what today will not have to spend a penny of subsidy, only to break an ideology that is already expired, even in the face of this Congress, which is overwhelmingly favorable [to the gaming sector]”.
