For the first time in CS:GO history, Rio de Janeiro and Brazil will host a Major! This is the Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio CS:GO Major Championship that will take place between October 31st and November 13th. And, as usual, the final stretch of the Major will be in person and held at Jeunesse Arena, in Barra da Tijuca. Already from the 10th, the expectation is that over 20 thousand fans will be able to enjoy a historic moment of eSport and national CS. Holder of the exclusive rights to broadcast in Portuguese, Gaules’ channel will be the main meeting point and news involving the championship.

Since 2013, when Brazil hosted DreamHack Winter, fans have been asking for a Major. And originally, the event was scheduled for May 2020, but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to seeing the best players in the world in action on Brazilian soil, the event will have a prize pool of US$ 1 million.

The announcement comes after, this month, Gaules broke the record for the highest number of simultaneous people on a live, 710,500. The feat happened in the final minutes of the broadcast of the game in the victory of the Brazilian team Imperial against Cloud 9, in a match valid for the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 of Counter-Strike. Excluding the lives of music and football matches on YouTube, the record achieved was dedicated to the entire national gamer community.

“The Major is ours! Brazil has shown its strength for a long time, has achieved respect on the world stage and is now going to host one of the biggest events in the world. I'm really looking forward to following along with the entire Tribe and gamer community. Let's make the best and most complete broadcast of a Major. I can promise big surprises for this coverage and who knows, maybe we can all watch a Brazilian team in the final of the Major,” said Gaules.

It is worth noting that not only is the Major showing confirmed with all the Tribo streamers, but also the entire journey of Brazilian teams or not for the classification throughout 2022. “This is the greatest gift that the CS community and the Tribe could have. I'm sure we'll show the best that CS can provide and, together with the Brazilian heat, we'll push our players on top of legends like S1mple and Karrigan,” predicts Gaules.

In all, 24 teams participate in the Major. Teams will be classified into competition stages, Challengers, Legends or Champions following their performance during the IEM Road to Rio stages (known as RMR). During the first phase, the Challengers Stage, 16 teams face each other in MD1 and MD3 resulting in 8 teams advancing to the Legends stage, where they found 8 new teams. In this phase, the matches will also be in the MD1 and MD3 schemes. After this stage, the top 8 advance to the Champions Stage (a stage that will be face-to-face) and bring together the top 16 teams in a single-elimination playoff bracket until the grand champion is defined.
