Federal Court of Auditors to investigate transfer of lotteries to sports entities in Brazil

Ana Arraes, president of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), informed the Senate Board of Directors that an audit process had been opened to investigate the transfer of federal funds from Caixa lotteries to sports entities in Brazil. The TCU was provoked to take a stand on the issue by Senator Álvaro Dias (Podemos-PR).

In the audit request sent to the Court of Auditors, the senator mentioned that, between 2015 and 2021, entities such as the Brazilian Committee of Clubs received around R$444 million (US$ 88m) in lottery transfers. Álvaro Dias added that, through the Access to Information Law, he did not get a sufficient answer on the destination of those resources.

The senator also asked the TCU to determine the lottery transfers to the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Brazilian Paralympic Committee, Brazilian Confederation of School Sports and Brazilian Confederation of University Sports.

The minister's order is dated this Tuesday (3), but the Court's decision was taken in a reserved session on April 20. Ana Arraes says that she will make the proper communication to the Senate as soon as the inspection works are concluded.
