In an exclusive interview with GMB, Victor Arias, VP of Operations LATAM, and Marco Pequeno, country manager Brazil, anticipate the topics of their panel and comment on their expectations just days before the biggest betting event in the history of the Brazilian market.

GMB - What will be the main topics you will cover in your panel? And what is your vision of the current situation of the gaming sector in Brazil?
Victor Arias / Marco Pequeno: We will approach the Brazilian market from the perspective of a company that is having great success in Brazil. We will share some details of our business case in the Brazilian market, showing how we managed to achieve such high growth in such a short time. Our view of the industry is that the potential is clear and the picture keeps getting bigger and clearer. A country of continental proportions in which gambling, in its different forms, is part of the culture of the people in general, is a treasure that deserves to be explored by the best companies in the industry and that is why we are here.

How do you analyze Brazil’s growth in the sports betting section that is still in process of regulation? Do you think it will be ready for the Qatar World Cup?
The Brazilian sports betting market is very powerful and a World Cup-year always has a different flavor. The pre-World Cup regulation is essential for the industry to reach even higher levels and for the entire country to see the fruits that a serious category can bring to our society. Not coincidentally, our sports betting product for operators is already in high demand and, as like every product with the Pragmatic Play brand, it will deliver unparalleled performance for operators and their users. We expect our Sportsbook to be a global success in 2022, riding the wave of the World Cup at the end of the year.

 



At what point do you think the local gaming market is, regarding its evolution from a political and regulatory point of view?
The gaming market in Brazil has been asking for regulation for years. Players in general have long been prepared to receive the eye of the State and show that it deserves and should be considered an industry as serious as any other in Brazil. The number of good professionals already working in this market, even without regulation, is an example of what we can do once the State regulates this issue.

Did the results of your company's work this year go as expected? Do you have plans to grow and contribute to the Brazilian market?
We have very specific objectives and thanks to the localized strategies in the different markets and the excellent product we offer, we manage not only to achieve the expected results, but also to surpass them. Regarding our plans in Brazil, we are certainly working hard to grow even more during the year.  It is a very interesting market for the industry and has incredible potential, which we decided to take full advantage of.

With the sports betting regulation, do you believe that the other gaming verticals could gain reinforcement for their legalization in Brazil, such as online casinos, which are already part of a wide range of sports betting platforms?
I believe so, it is a possible way to treat sports betting as a “flagship” in this regulatory process, where this sector of the industry would serve to prove that other sectors need to be observed under the same eye and with the same goodwill.

Brazilian iGaming Awards

For the second year, the Brazilian iGaming Awards will recognize the most outstanding in the sports betting and iGaming sector in the Brazilian market in 14 categories, on the first day of BiS 2022, in Sao Paulo.

The Brazilian iGaming Awards recognize, via industry vote, the companies and professionals that stood out this year. The award event will take place at the Charles Edward Pub, at Rua Miriti s/n, in Sao Paulo, during a cocktail party that will bring together participants registered for the Brazilian iGaming Summit, on the night of June 28th.

The objective is to reward companies and professionals that have made and continue to make a difference to the national market and provide a memorable night for the public. The event is exclusive to BiS participants.

About the Brazilian iGaming Summit and Afiliados LATAM

Sao Paulo, the largest business hub in Latin America, will host the second edition of the Brazilian iGaming Summit on the 28th and 29th of June. It will be the time to meet again with industry partners and network in what promises to be the most exclusive event in the iGaming market, covering sports betting, casino games and lotteries.

In this second edition of BiS there is a novelty.
