Tourism Commission in Brazil’s Chamber discusses again gaming legalization

The Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies will debate this Wednesday (29) the legalization of the gaming sector in Brazil. The debate was requested by deputy Newton Cardoso Jr (MDB-MG). The congressman recalls that the Bill 442/91, which provides for the legalization of all types of verticales, such as casinos, bingos, online and jogo do bicho, was approved in the Chamber and is awaiting consideration by the Federal Senate.

“The debate on the subject is opportune and of national interest, as the legalization of gaming proves to be a promising path for the recovery of the economy, above all, by generating jobs and foreign exchange for the country,” he says.

Newton Cardoso Jr adds that Luiz Carlos Prestes, one of the biggest supporters of the legalization of the activity in Brazil, is launching the book “Brasil, Você Tá Duro Porque Quer” (Brazil, You're Broken Because You Want), which brings together a collection of interviews he conducted in 2021 with several personalities linked to gaming sector in Brazil.

“The book has 31 interviews with politicians, businessmen, lawyers and artists about gaming as a recreational activity and business capable of generating hundreds of thousands of formal jobs and billions of reais in taxes,” he explains.

The ones invited are:

– Secretary of State for Culture and Tourism of Minas Gerais, Leônidas Oliveira; – the author of the book “Brasil, Você Tá Duro Porque Quer”, Luiz Carlos Prestes Filho; and,

– Lawyer Luiz Felipe Maia.

The debate will take place at 2 pm, in plenary 5.
