“With the regulation of betting, Kambi will be one of the most important players in Brazil”

An international leading provider of sports betting solutions, Kambi is very attentive to the directions that the sector's regulation is taking in Brazil, which, according to firm's sales director Juan Barrachina, is key for Kambi. “We are looking for good operators to accompany us in the development of the market which, as everyone knows, is the largest in the region”. In conversation with GMB, he assured that “we will be one of the most important players in the country.”

With more than 20 years of existence, Kambi, a leading provider of solutions for sports betting operations, has achieved great merits thanks to the vision of the company's founders, who for years worked as operators. With the regulation of markets in several jurisdictions, the company started to develop products tailored to each one of them and today it is a world reference in the iGaming sector.

GMB – Juan, how is the sports betting business for Kambi in Brazil?

- For three or four years we have been looking for good operators who can accompany us in the development of the Brazilian market, which, as we all know, is the largest in the region. We have some opportunities that we will announce soon in this regard. We are also attentive to the regulations and what will happen regarding the presidential decree and the determinations and conditions for us to be able to operate with legal certainty in Brazil.

And has Kambi's participation in Brazil been growing?
Not yet because we haven't started operating. We are waiting for the market to definitively regulate itself, but we are sure that when we start to provide services, we will be one of the most important providers and operators in the market. But this is a surprise.

How has the market been in Latin America for Kambi?
It's been a huge growth market since we started in Mexico and Colombia. We are also already in Peru and Argentina. It is growing everywhere as the markets are regulated. That is where we entered with strength, with a very robust product and with everything related to compliance and adapting to what the regulators require. We can say that it is an exponential growth in the last four years.

AndiIt's been a hit in the U.S. too!
United States is the most important market in the world. We were the first company to enter New Jersey and different states, developing the first cash bet outside of Nevada. It's a very important market and now we're waiting to see what happens in California, the next big state that we hope will regulate betting soon. We are already in 14 or 15 states that have already authorized the activity.

And specifically in New York?
We were one of 12 companies that had the license or concession to operate platforms. We are very happy as it is a great value market even though it looks small. United States is different from Latin America. There average stakes are over US$80 per bet or US$100, while here in the region they are between US$4 and US$5 per ticket. So everyone knows that the real value is in the United States.

What do you think of the lecture at BiS that dealt with the regulation of sports betting?
It is logical to develop in Brazil, because at the moment all the revenues that come in do not stay in the country and do not contribute anything to the State as taxes and do not generate security for operators to invest in marketing. So, it is logical that it is regulated. We have been waiting for a long time for the definitive regulation and we hope that at the next event we can say that there are already operators with official license from the Brazilian State at the federal level.
