Ricardo Bianco Rosada (CMO) explains the strategy

galera.bet tries the impossible to gain market share: unite fans of rival clubs

It is not simple to join two controversial topics to build a business strategy. But that's what bookmaker galera.bet did when it saw in club’s supporters a way to boost its market share and at the same time unite them in favor of a common cause: the awareness of responsible gambling. The company defends sector regulation for the Brazilian market.

The sports betting universe is usually viewed with suspicion. Whether abroad or in Brazil, where there are 20 million potential gamblers (or customers), but only 10% effectively participate in disputes. “We have the player as our hero of the journey. And who better than the fan to be the most important player?”, told to DINHEIRO Ricardo Bianco Rosada, CMO of galera.bet. “And how do we manage to mirror that? In the crowds, in the fans. They are the ones who make the sport.”

Aware of historical episodes of violence among fans in the country, the executive highlights the non-aggression agreement between the chosen partners, in addition to praising organized initiatives, such as the distribution of lunchboxes and the carrying out of warm clothing campaigns in communities.

So far, supporters from 13 clubs are part of the galera.bet project, cases of Gaviões da Fiel (Corinthians), Mancha AlviVerde (Palmeiras), Raça Rubro-Negra (Flamengo), TUF Lions (Fortaleza) and Torcida Jovem Amor Maior (Ponte black).

"We should reach a maximum of 15. Some were not in line with what we see," says the executive. The company's idea is to generate engagement and knowledge among sports fans about how the betting world works.

galera.bet, according to Rosada, does not transfer money to fans. Contributes with expenses and ensures the proper application of resources in cultural and social actions of the partners, such as renting tables and chairs for festivities, making shirts, banners and mosaics for events and shows on their courts and in stadiums. In return, the brand is printed on physical banners, banners and t-shirts, as well as posts on social networks.

In addition to this project, the company sponsors the Corinthians men's and women's football teams, as well as the Brazilian elite men's division. “The agreement with Corinthians is for R$40 million in total, for five years [2021 to 2025]”, said the executive. The relationship with CBF will last for three years (2022 to 2024), but the amount involved was not disclosed by the parties.

Belonging to Playtech, one of the world's largest companies in gaming technology, galera.bet has operations based in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Gibraltar (Spain) and Tel Aviv (Israel), and is awaiting the regulation of gambling. The delay is credited to the lack of knowledge of politicians regarding the gaming sector.

In the executive's view, the best artifice that the government can use to bring security to gamblers is to regulate betting. “This would contribute to the issue of money laundering prevention and in-game education.”

Rosada recalls that betting is part of the Brazilian's routine. “At the Mega Sena da Virada, around 70 million tickets were sold. It’s a lot,” he said, noting that there is “a false prejudice or a lack of knowledge that scares.”

According to him, the world average of the size of a lottery corresponds to 0.56% of a country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In Italy, the United States and France, for example, the average varies from 0.9% to 1.8%. In Brazil it is only 0.2%. “It is a very underexplored segment. You have just one operator [Caixa]. It settles there,” said the CMO. For him, the segment could grow five times in up to two years.

Rules

In galera.bet, a minimum of R$ 10 is stipulated for the player to deposit (bank), and the minimum bet starts at R$ 1. The entire transaction is carried out via Pix, which helps to identify the payer and the recipient, in addition to the platform only accepts money from the registered CPF. "We are building a clean customer base. Without the inclusion of false CPFs or the use of robots to create multiple accounts."

The initiatives, he said, help fight money laundering. The national market is in the sights of at least 400 companies around the world. In addition to galera.bet, 24 other banners already operate in the country, such as bet 365 and sportingbet. The brands can be seen on team jerseys, football signs and TV ads. An endless bet on the potential of the Brazilian player.
