“Sportradar will increase presence in Brazil if betting regulation takes place”

Sportradar, a key company in the sports betting ecosystem, is waiting for the regulation of the activity in Brazil to expand its presence in the country. Mateo Lenoble, LATAM Sales Director, spoke exclusively with GMB and highlighted that “currently, we are very focused on the Brazilian market, which in Latin America is the largest and most importante.” For him, a recent agreement between Sportradar and Brazil’s Federal Police was very important to detect manipulation of results “to protect the business and our customers.”

Sportradar is one of the leading companies in the sports betting industry for the products it offers. Among them, compliance data analysis, customer acquisition and a host of other tools to improve the user experience and deliver reliable and accurate data to sportsbooks about what happens in this ecosystem.

In an exclusive interview with GMB, Mateo Lenoble, the company's LATAM sales director, says that Brazil is the most important market in the region for Sportradar. “We are very focused on the Brazilian market, which in Latin America is the largest and most important. We have been active and working here for a long time,” he said.

GMB - How is the Brazilian market for Sportradar at the moment?
Mateo Lenoble
- Sportradar is very complete and we provide all the tools for operators to be able to act in the market. Currently, we are very focused on the Brazilian market, which in Latin America is the largest and most important. We've been active and working here for a long time. Now, with many online operators helping to partner with local Brazilian teams. So this is another part of the company that is not only providing data, risk analysis, but also marketing tools for customer acquisition and connecting operators with clubs that is also very important to us.

In the Latin American market, besides Brazil, which would be the most important countries where the firm operates?
The most important countries in Latin America are: number 1, Brazil, which is the company's focus; then we have Mexico as the second most important; then we turn to all of South America where we have Peru, Argentina, Colombia. Last month we were at an event in Chile, which is also opening up to online and is going to be very interesting. I've been here since 2015 and I've been lucky enough to see exponential growth in this market.

One of the backbones of bookmakers is precisely the reliability of the product they offer and that match results are not manipulated. That's a big focus of the company, right?
Yes, exactly. We, as major providers of data to our customers, must protect them from receiving rigged game bets. That's why we're investing heavily in this at a global level. Here in Brazil, in particular, we made an agreement with the Federal Police in which if we detect manipulation in a match, we can have contact with the police and the federation to avoid this. We detect manipulation through bets, see the market movement and know how many are being received. This information we pass on to the police and the federation. All this to protect the business and our customers.

This in a market that is not even regulated yet. How do you deal with the issue of sports betting regulation in Brazil?
The regulation started a long time ago, in 2018. It's been four years and it's not regulated. We have high expectations from Sportradar because it is a very large market and because of our experience in other jurisdictions, such as Colombia, which has regulated and seen the market grow exponentially. It generated a lot of interest, security and confidence on the part of the bettor in the operations.

And it's a much smaller market than the Brazilian one, isn't it?
Much smaller. It is difficult to measure the Brazilian market because it is very large. But, as I said, we have high expectations for regulation like everyone here. Speaking with operators and other providers, there is still a lot of doubt whether it will happen or not. That's why we're looking forward to it.

And if so, what are Sportradar's plans for the future in the country?
Well, for the future we are waiting if the regulation will happen; if that happens, we certainly have a much bigger plan for Brazil in terms of having a local presence. We currently have colleagues working here with marketing and other tools that we provide to operators. But it may be that in the future, if regulation takes place, our presence will be stronger locally.

Well, no manipulation of results and all data acquisition with Sportradar...
Thank you very much. I want to leave a message for our customers that they can trust our data quality and that we are working so that there is no manipulation of matches either. Thank you so much for the time and the interview.
