Brazilian online lottery intermediaries protest CEF for vetoing economic freedom

Due to Caixa Econômica Federal’s (CEF) attempt to ban the operation of lottery intermediation websites in Brazil, the Association of Digital Intermediaries of Lottery Products (AIDIGLOT), an entity that brings together companies that provide such a service, releases a a note of rejection against CEF’s decision.

The Association of Digital Intermediators of Lottery Products (AIDIGLOT) publicly expresses, through this statement, that it does not agree with the decision granted to Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF), which aimed to curtail the economic activity of intermediary lottery websites in the country.

Considering a service that Caixa does not offer online, these sites, in general, mediate the lottery "pool" service and contribute significantly to increasing economic revenue.

In addition, the bank's movement violates the Economic Freedom Act, which, in short, guarantees the right that people have to develop economic activities, work, generate reserves and invest without greater interference from the State, relieving the burden of bureaucracy on the entrepreneur.

In this sense, on Friday 15, the President of the Republic had already expressed a positive intention in a post on Twitter regarding foreign shopping sites such as Shopee, AliExpress and Shein that provide services in Brazil, positioning himself against the idea of barring its operation and offering freedom in the provision of services, a treatment totally contrary to those offered to Brazilian websites.

On a professional basis, AIDIGLOT still regrets the judicial decision that accepted Caixa's Emergency Guardianship, requesting the removal of the websites of two of our associates, after a decision by the 2nd Civil Court of São Paulo and the 1st Federal Civil Court of the SJRR (Judicial Section from Roraima).

In addition to these, other processes are also associated with PROCON and the Public Ministry. It is worth noting that none of these processes are on behalf of the final consumer, but rather on behalf of Caixa Econômica Federal, a bank whose premise is to serve all Brazilians.

Finally, the Association makes an appeal in defense of free enterprise and believes that Caixa Econômica Federal, in addition to not supporting its purposes, vetoes the economic freedom of companies in its own country.
