Betting apps: gambling regulation promises to further heat up this sector in Brazil

Despite the difficulties encountered by operators to make their applications available, the expectation is that demand for betting apps will increase in Brazil after regulation. The popularization of the sector has increased the demand for quality specialized content, such as the website AplicativosdeApostas.com, which is, as the name suggests, fully focused on applications in the sector and fulfills a growing demand for information from players.

In recent years, the demand for betting apps has increased in Brazil. Since the legalization of gaming in 2018, sports betting has seen a boom on all fronts. Just analyze the number of websites, Youtube channels and Instagram accounts of companies and people talking about the topic.

The popularization of the sector has made the demand for specialized quality content grow, such as the website AplicativosdeApostas.com, which is, as the name suggests, fully focused on sports betting apps.

Ahead of the site as editor-in-chief, journalist Débora Dias explains how the idea for the website came about: “We have noticed a growing demand for information about bookmakers with applications. It was not a surprise, as studies show that 8 out of 10 Brazilians use their cell phone as their main device to access the internet. So, it seemed natural that sooner or later, Brazilian bettors would look for betting apps to replace browsing with Chrome or Safari.”

Despite the demand, most bookmakers operating in Brazil still do not offer an app. “It is important to remember that the Google Play and Apple app stores do not allow betting apps to appear in the search results,” says Débora. The reason is that Google and Apple follow a policy of not engaging with betting apps in countries where sports betting is not regulated.

“The issue of regulation directly affects betting apps. The bookmaker needs to offer its applications in APK and .ipa format and make the download available through its websites. When the Brazilian government regulates the sector, bettors will be able to download the apps directly from the app stores,” explains the journalist.

The implications of the current dynamic is that many bookmakers have chosen to wait for regulation. Another point highlighted by Dias is that many bettors who want to use betting apps do not feel safe to download the apps through the browser.

“In all of our tutorials on how to download the app from a particular bookmaker, we emphasize that the device must be enabled to download apps through the browser. We are sure that when we inform this in the first step of the download, many users already give up on downloading the app. Mainly, iPhone users,” points out Débora.

The trend is that the demand for betting apps will increase dramatically after the regulation of the sector. In this way, more bookmakers will invest in applications and will make them available to the Brazilian public. Currently, the most renowned bookmakers offer apps such as Bet365 (Android and iOS), Betfair (Android and iOS), Betano (Android) and Betway (Android).
