Brazilian deputy proposes creation of a parliamentary front to support eSports in São Paulo

State deputy and bodybuilder Felipe Franco (União) requested the creation of a parliamentary front to support eSports and professionals in the sector with the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (ALESP). The initiative was supported by streamer and founder of Fluxo, Cerol.

According to deputy Felipe Franco, the purpose of the request is to promote the discussion on electronic sports in Brazil, proposing strategies and actions to support the development of the sector.

Today games are an important part of Brazilian culture, whether at home or in championships. We see top athletes and people passionate about games of all ages and social classes,” said the deputy.

Felipe Franco justified the request by highlighting the existence of academic studies carried out by the University of Rochester (USA) that prove the relationship between games and biopsychosocial development.

According to Franco, the researchers observed that those who play action games were, on average, 25% faster in answering questions and had faster reasoning and problem solving abilities.

"We are announcing our first Parliamentary Front together with my friend Cerol, who today is a success in games and streamers. He is a guy today who encourages those kids who sometimes really need a guy who is a mirror," he comments.

The theme of eSports gained repercussions with the statement by the Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, that the practice should not be seen as a traditional sport, but as entertainment.

In 2019, deputies approved the regulation of eSports at the state level in the Legislative Assembly, but the then governor of São Paulo João Doriia vetoed the project.
