PVC: Government is wrong when negotiating the sports betting PM and scandals may increase

The postponement of the regulation of sports betting has been a concern of journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho. In his PVC Column this Monday (29), he says that “deferring and negotiating that Arthur Lira take it to Congress as a Bill will be admitting the chance of new scandals.” For PVC, “the PM is ready. It is enough for President Lula to sign, to start trying to regulate and reduce the chances of new purchases of yellow cards, expulsions and penalties.”

The federal government has non-negotiable priorities. One of them, the fiscal framework, has already passed through the Chamber. Another is tax reform.

Due to the two priorities, the government has accepted the idea of the presidency of the Federal Chamber of making a Bill on the regulation of sports betting sites.

Mistake! The situation of betting sites and their regulation continues to be an emergency, postponed by the four years of the Bolsonaro government.

Postponing the regulation and negotiating that Arthur Lira take it to Congress as a Bill will be admitting the chance of new scandals, such as those already triggered by Operations Maximum Penalty I and II.

For the Federal Chamber, taking the issue forward and making a Bill could mean allocations to state governments and exchange of benefits with states and municipalities.

For Brazil, it is essential to regulate now.

The Provisional Measure is ready. It is enough for President Lula to sign to start trying to regulate and reduce the chances of new purchases of yellow cards, expulsions and penalty kicks.

Football generates employment and represents 0.6% of GDP.
