BiS SiGMA Americas – Panel ‘Global expectations of the sector’

Brazil has the potential to standardize innovation across the gaming industry

BiS SiGMA Americas continues to analyze the paths of the Brazilian market in a rich cycle of debates. The panel “Global expectations for the sector” brought the vision of operators that already operate in the country. The panel was conducted by Roberto Regianini (FBMDS) and included the participation of Ivo Dorotéia (Play Book), Ramiro Atucha (Vibra Gaming), Marc Crean (OpenBet) and Javier Troncoso (Futbolsites).

Firstly, the CEO of Play Book, Ivo Dorotéia, states that Brazil is no longer just a country with great potential, but a reality in the industry. “They say that Brazil is a sleeping giant. No. The giant is awake, alive and growing consistently double digits. So, it's not a sleeping giant, it's one of the best business opportunities in our industry. It had to be respected that way.”

Then, Ramiro Atucha, CEO of Vibra Gaming, highlighted the Brazilians' taste for gaming and that the delay in regulation brings risks for gamblers who do not wait for it, in addition to hindering the sector's competitiveness.

“First is regulation. In Brazil, Argentina, all of Latin America there are people who like gambling and they don't wait for regulation, we all know that they are gambling on offshore sites. So, the discussion is not whether there is gambling or not. All the delay to regulate helps the unregulated market. We've been talking about this for almost fifteen years and Brazil is always on the verge of regulating. What happened to sports betting makes that today we can say that it is not illegal, but it is strange that only sports betting is regulated and not casinos. Thus, those who invest in a license will be at a disadvantage against offshore companies that have everything,” commented Atucha.

On the other hand, OpenBet's VP, Marc Crean, stated that Brazil has a great opportunity to build an innovative and exemplary market for the entire industry.

“The dynamic that happens across the industry is knowing the line between the local and the global. I think Brazil has something special compared to Latin American markets, which is the mixture of the Brazilian way with innovation,” Marc Crean explained.

So, Brazil has the opportunity to define what innovation is in the region. There are good universities here, a strong structure, so nobody knows how far they can go. I think this part is where Brazil can evolve more,” he added.

Finally, Javier Troncoso, Chief Commercial Officer at Futbolsites, pointed out that self-regulation is also very important for the operator to be able to deliver a good service.

“Self-regulation allows us to know how to approach a large mass of audience, advertising campaigns taking sports betting and online gambling in the same way that the population follows other subjects. However, we are careful to build a healthy and sustainable industry,” he concluded.

BiS SiGMA Americas will run until the 18th, at the Transamérica Expo Center in Sao Paulo. In addition to panels on the main issues in the gaming and betting market, the meeting has already reached the status of the largest in Latin America with hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors.
