Spotlight on regulation

At iGB L!VE, Brazil is once again center of attention of the global market

With each international event in the iGaming sector, Brazil stands out more for its potential to become one of the largest regulated markets in the world. At iGB L!VE Amsterdam it was no different. Even still operating in a gray zone, without regulations, the country was the center of the spotlight in a debate on LatAm that brought together Witoldo Hendrich Jr, (Online IPS), Pedrão Bet (Super Afiliados), Gabriel Temponi (EstrelaBet) and Liliana Almeida (Clever).

“El Dorado or reality check” was the panel at iGB L!VE Amsterdam that brought together experts to discuss the Latin market as a whole and Brazil in particular. Once again, the audience's interest was in the expectation regarding the regulation of sports betting and the possibility of approval of online gambling and, in the future, of other gaming verticals.

If the objective was to discuss Latin America, one would imagine that the panel could have professionals from countries other than Brazil. But given the grandeur of the largest country on the continent and its importance in the region, the organizers put on stage Witoldo Hendrich Jr, (Online IPS), Pedrão Bet (Super Afiliados), Gabriel Temponi (EstrelaBet) and Liliana Almeida (Clever). These professionals know not only the local peculiarities but also the entire continent.

Topics focused on regulation, market growth, adoption of local payment methods and affiliation, among other subjects.

The audience, of course, manifested itself negatively about the delay in regulation and made it clear that while the rules for Law 13,756 are not defined, operators will continue to operate in the country from abroad, which is not good for them and much less for Brazil, which does not generate formal jobs or collect taxes on the activity.

Pedro Marcos, Pedrão Bet, as it is known not only in Brazil but all over the world, focused its participation on the issue of affiliation, which “has been growing sustainably and giving more and more credibility to our activity.” The representative of Super Afiliados said that although it is growing rapidly, the affiliation sector has not yet reached maturity compared to other European countries. “The horizon is our goal and we are going to greatly expand the participation of affiliates not only in the iGaming regulation process, but also in the development of this important market.”

He also recalled that all global operators with an eye on the Brazilian market must pay attention to three points to achieve success: tropicalization, local payment systems and affiliates/partners who know the market.

Liliana Almeida, marketing manager at Clever Advertising, reinforced the issue of localized strategy and work in partnership with affiliates for a successful operation in Brazil. With a global presence, the digital performance agency has acted in a remarkable way in the Brazilian market with tools ranging from media buying, influencers and SEO. For the executive, the growth of the market in recent years has led the country to reach global attention and the regulation will give Brazil the status of one of the largest iGaming jurisdictions in the world and everyone should prepare for partnerships with affiliates and adapt to the requirements that will come with the definition of the rules by the government.

For Witoldo Hendrich Jr., director of Online IPS, it was to be expected that Brazil would be the target of attention in the panel on LatAm. “The market on the continent is effervescent, but Brazil is in the spotlight. Everyone showed interest in knowing who is coming to the market, how the regulatory process is going and, ultimately, how to enter Brazil. And that demonstrates what we already know. There is even greater growth potential than is normally speculated,” analyzed Witoldo.

“When an entire audience is interested in knowing how to ‘get started’ in Brazil, it shows that the market is far from saturation,” summarized the lawyer.

Gabriel Temponi, sales director at EstrelaBet, pointed out that operators must explore the iGaming sector in Brazil in a responsible and focused way, even though the regulation has not yet come out, in the best global practices. For him, it will be essential that all operators are in tune with the rules that will come in order to seek their licenses already knowing that they will be able to comply with the rules.

“The boom in the Brazilian market is unquestionable and the connection between operators with suppliers of products and services for the activity and the harmony with affiliates will be preponderant for the success not only of a company, but of all players. Everyone must seek the best practices so that this boom continues to make Brazil one of the largest markets in the world.”
