The request for information was unanimously approved during a meeting held on Wednesday (9). The information should be sent by the president of Loterj, Hazenclever Lopes Cançado.
The request to Loterj was an initiative of the president of the CCJ, congressman Rodrigo Amorim (União). The congressman explained that he received numerous complaints of irregularities in the accreditation of betting companies after the discussion last week, by the CCJ, of Bill 3.299/24, which he authored. The proposal prohibits advertising and sponsorship of betting companies in sports activities in the State of Rio.
“The accusation we received is that Loterj is being selective in the accreditation of these companies. Some of them have been in the queue for some time and are not accredited, and there is a case of a company accredited in 48 hours,” explained the congressman.
Regulation of companies
Congressman Luiz Paulo (PSD) asked to include questions related to legal issues regarding the regulation of these companies in the request for information.
“There is a court ruling in force that allows for the regulation of betting at the state level, regardless of national regulations, which makes this issue even more complicated. It is important for the deputies to know exactly what is the responsibility of Loterj and what is the responsibility of the Union. It is also necessary to know all the current legal proceedings, which are still in the appeal phase, in addition to the type of regulation used by Loterj. With these answers, we can be more precise in creating bills,” he stated.
Deputy Carlos Minc (PSB) also requested the inclusion of questions about measures to prevent vices and financial misappropriation. “It is necessary to know whether the accreditation of companies by Loterj addresses these issues. It is urgent to advance this issue in some way, putting projects up for discussion here at Alerj,” he said.
The president of the CCJ agreed to include all the requests from the members of the committee. Amorim also stressed that the request for information is not to address the release or restriction of sports betting.
“We are not getting into this area, even though I have formed my opinion and believe that betting causes addictions and can be harmful to the economy, with the evasion of foreign currency. But the request for information is about the specific issue of Loterj accreditation, since there are reports of irregularities. The issue is in the heat of the moment and we, as deputies, have to be informed of what is happening,” he concluded.
