In an interview with Globo, the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, defended the vote and approval of Bill 2,234/2022, which legalizes casinos, bingo and jogo do bicho in Brazil. The project went to the Senate Plenary and after some opposing positions on the part of opponents of legal gambling, it was removed from the agenda at the request of Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), the rapporteur for the matter.
With the withdrawal of the matter, information will be collected from the Ministries of Health, Development and Social Assistance and Fight against Hunger, within a period of 30 days, on the impacts of the activity in Brazil. The text will only be discussed again in 2025.
In the interview, the Minister of Tourism expressed his support for the matter and believes that the bill should be voted on as soon as possible.
“I think it’s incongruent that we can have online games, with platforms that operate in other countries, that don’t generate jobs in Brazil, and that we can’t have a complex with a structure that will employ 10 thousand people,” he said.
“I support this idea, I believe there is a majority in the Senate, but a minority against it managed to speak louder and took the project off the agenda. I hope it is approved as soon as possible.”
“If not this year, then next year, by February, before Carnival. I talk almost every day to achieve this,” he concluded.
