Porto Alegre approves reduction of ISS for iGaming as a strategy to attract investments

The Porto Alegre City Council approved this Monday (16) an amendment that reduces the rate of the Tax on Services of Any Nature (ISSQN) to 2% on services related to sports betting, lotteries and iGaming. The measure is part of a strategy to attract these companies and repeats an action also taken by the city of São Paulo, which also reduced the tax burden for companies in the sector.

With the tax reduction, Porto Alegre seeks to position itself as a hub for the segment, which promises to generate jobs, boost the local economy and increase tax collection. The activity adds to the other 62 in which we have already had a tax reduction,” highlighted the state's Secretary of Finance Rodrigo Fantinel.

The amendment by councilor Cláudio Janta was included in the complementary bill that extends until December 31, 2026 the ISS authorization for public and selective collective transportation by subdivision.

The proposal now awaits approval by the Executive Branch, consolidating another step in the Capital's efforts to promote an environment favorable to economic development.

In December 2022, the city of São Paulo also approved a bill to reduce the ISS tax on iGaming and fantasy gaming companies to 2%. In May of last year, the Finance Department defined the design bases and, more recently, in November of this year, the locations where iGaming companies in the city can issue only one invoice per month with the result of sales from the previous month.
