CLO Frederico Gabrich stated

For EstrelaBet, blocking illegal websites is the sector's biggest concern

In the last weeks of the year, executives in the 'Bets' (as the companies are called) sector have been rushing to obtain certification for their platforms and game providers to meet all the requirements of the Ministry of Finance on January 1st. But the biggest concern for when the regulation comes into effect is whether the state will be able to block illegal betting websites, says EstrelaBet's legal director, Frederico Gabrich.

We need to give more regulatory and budgetary power to both the Central Bank and Anatel,” says the executive. “If the PIX operations of illegal houses are blocked by the BC, half of the problems are solved. If Anatel has the resources to block the websites, the other half is solved.”

The constitution of a minimum financial reserve of 5 million reais is also causing concern among betting companies licensed by the Treasury. The law requires that this reserve be maintained in the form of investments in Treasury bonds, but company executives are still unsure about which bonds will be valid to comply with the rule.

Combating addiction

The director of EstrelaBet states that the company is also concerned with responsible gaming and adopts initiatives to offer treatment to people with addiction.

We have a service program for people who seek psychological help. We provide services through the university with which we have an agreement,” says Gabrich.

We are also concerned with seeking sponsorships not only in sports or with influencers, but also in the social area. We have a large sponsorship with Santa Casa de Belo Horizonte, the largest SUS hospital in Minas Gerais,” he adds.
