“All Latin America will make a leap in iGaming, and the Brazilian regulation encouraged this”

In an exclusive interview with GMB, Jonathan Félix, CEO of Global Business Company and one of the largest gaming experts in Latin America, stated that the regulation of sports betting and iGaming in Brazil triggered a process that will expand throughout the region. “International brands will come and are already looking closely at other countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Chile,” he analyzed.

GMB – How do you see the development of the iGaming market in Latin America?
Jonathan Félix – The Brazilian market is the most attention-grabbing in the entire region and the world. The proof of this was the BiS SiGMA Americas, which gathered thousands of people. We see that Brazil's gaming industry is preparing for the next stage of entering the regulated market once the government finalizes all the terms and conditions currently being discussed. The Brazilian market is very promising, and many companies are already operating, with many more set to enter once the market is regulated.

Do you think many new companies will come with regulation?
I believe so. Global international brands will likely stop here, starting with Brazil, and will certainly be looking at other important and interesting markets in the region, such as Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Chile.

How can you compare the Brazilian market today to what is happening in Peru, which is undergoing a very similar process?
Yes, the markets are similar, though not identical, of course. Peru is already in the process, in the stage of a regulated market. There is a lot of expectation, with 80 companies having applied for a license from the Peruvian regulator at the time of the interview (now rising to over 140), and we expect that by the end of this month, the regulator will release the complete list of B2C licensed companies. It will be a highly competitive market that has gone through 15 years of maturation and is ready for this new stage of the regulated market.

Is all of Latin America buzzing with activity?
Exactly. Latin America is on the path to regulating its markets. The proof of this is what we are seeing in Brazil, which is in the final phase of discussions. Chile is following the same path, and Mexico is beginning to discuss a new law to modernize the gaming sector in the country.

So, in the coming years, we will see how the region moves into a 100% regulated market, which will lead Latin America to take a new leap in the growth and development of the sector.
