Cade holds seminar on regulatory and competition challenges in the betting sector

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade, by its Portuguese acronym) will host, on October 30, the seminar “Betting Market: Challenges and Competition Perspectives.” The event will take place in the agency’s plenary hall at 2:30 p.m., with live streaming on YouTube, and will bring together representatives from Cade and the federal government, public authorities, and industry experts.

Topics will range from the betting industry’s value chain — including operators, software developers, and payment providers — to the challenges of the federal pact in defining market geography and the particularities of competition between physical and virtual lottery products.

Thematic panels of the seminar

Panel 1 – The betting ecosystem: links in the value chain and definition of the relevant market

This debate will address the competitive dynamics of the betting sector, considering not only operators but also agents such as software developers, payment providers, and other links in the value chain.

Panel 2 – Competition and the federal pact: challenges in defining the market’s geography
This panel will discuss the territorial limits of economic activity and their relationship with the federal pact, in light of the role of municipal, state, and federal lotteries.

Panel 3 – Competition in the lottery products market: competition and regulatory aspects
The discussion will examine the differences between competition models in physical and virtual lottery products, analyzing their competitive and regulatory implications.
