The material was jointly developed by ten brands operating in Brazil (Afun, Bandbet, BetBoom, Blaze, Brazino777, F12, KingPanda, Jon Bet, Novibet, and Rei do Pitaco) and has already been delivered to the top management of Procon São Paulo.
The glossary compiles the main concepts used in the operation and communication of betting platforms, seeking to facilitate technical understanding and reduce barriers between operators, consumers, and regulators.
It divides the technical terms into four sections:
- Betting and Markets
- Platforms and Accounts
-Games and Mechanics
- Policies and Security
“Our goal is to contribute clear and accessible information about the operation of fixed-odds betting and online gaming,” the operators stated at the end of the document.
This glossary of technical terms was initially proposed during the last meeting held between betting companies and Procon-SP, with the goal of making betting terminology more consumer-friendly. The initiative was warmly welcomed by the agency.
During the meeting, the companies reaffirmed their full commitment to transparency and social responsibility standards, including compliance with instructions related to the Bolsa Família program.
The group also presented initiatives to improve communication with the public, such as enhancing operator websites, adopting clearer information practices, and reinforcing responsible gaming actions.
A central topic discussed was combating the illegal betting market, which remains a major challenge. The sector presented a proposal to compile a list of payment methods used by unauthorized websites—a tool that could assist Procon and authorities in curbing illicit practices and protecting consumers.
Another issue discussed was opening a dialogue with Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, to enable the app’s use as an official customer service channel for operators. The measure would make it easier for users to access information and support, increasing transparency and responsiveness in customer relations.
The meeting also resulted in a proposal to organize technical workshops with Procon-SP specialists to train them on the industry’s terminology and practices. In addition, the sector offered the agency access to AMIG’s Responsible Gaming booklet and videos, which may be used as educational materials in Procon’s awareness campaigns.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both the regulated sector and Procon-SP reinforced that institutional cooperation is essential to building a safer, more transparent, and balanced betting environment.
“There is still a great deal of misunderstanding about the terminology and functioning of online betting. This glossary represents an important step toward bringing operators, consumers, and authorities closer together—promoting understanding and responsibility,” said one of the group’s representatives.
The initiative was well received by the São Paulo consumer protection authority, whose mission includes harmonizing relationships between consumers and suppliers and implementing consumer protection and defense policies in the State of São Paulo.
