The policy includes educational campaigns, monitoring of abusive practices, and support for consumers who show signs of compulsive behavior. It also requires betting apps and websites to clearly inform about the risks of addiction and financial and emotional harm.
Representative Romero Albuquerque, who authored the bill along with other lawmakers, highlighted the importance of the measure given the increasing number of gambling-related addiction cases.
"Virtual gambling is increasingly present in people's daily lives, often uncontrolled. It is essential that the government act to prevent this type of addiction, which affects entire families and has caused serious emotional and financial damage," the lawmaker stated.
Romero also called on the State Government to implement effective consumer protection and mental health promotion measures.
"Now the government must implement this policy, ensuring ongoing campaigns and specialized care. Consumer protection and mental health care must be priorities given the growth of this problem in Pernambuco," he emphasized.
