ANJL highlights the economic role of sports betting at a national congress on the sector

Representatives of the National Association of Gaming and Lotteries (ANJL) participated in the 2nd Brazilian Congress on Gaming and Betting Law (CBDJ) in Brasília this Thursday (16). The event brought together authorities from the Executive and Legislative branches, sports betting market agents, academics, and lawyers to discuss relevant industry topics — especially the regulation of sports betting by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA).

ANJL President Plínio Lemos Jorge moderated the panel "Billions at Stake: The Economic and Tax Impacts of Betting," which discussed how regulation drives the economy, boosts tax revenue, and contributes to the country's development.

"It's urgent that we discuss how the sector has contributed to taxes. While we're witnessing a move to deplete economic activity, the figures released by the Federal Revenue Service show how beneficial it is for public finances to support the regulated market and direct the proceeds from betting houses toward social needs," stated Lemos Jorge.

ANJL Legal Director Pietro Cardia also moderated the panel "The Rules of the Game: Behind the Scenes of Betting Platforms."

The debate also featured Leonardo Benites, ANJL's Communications Director and Propane iGaming Agency CEO; João Paulo Bachur, IDP's Master's and Doctorate Program Coordinator; Tagiane Gomide, ANA Gaming's Legal and Integrity Director; and Daniele Correa Cardoso, Deputy Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance.

The closing panel also featured Pietro Cardia as moderator, this time in the debate "The Future of Brazilian Sports: Financing, Integrity, and New Frontiers."
