Ministry of Sports promotes workshop on betting integrity and combating match-fixing

Brazil’s Ministry of Sports (MEsp) and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) held the workshop 'Protecting Sports Betting: Integrity in Action' this Thursday (23). The initiative is part of the work plan established in the cooperation agreement signed between the parties, aiming to align the country with international best practices in promoting sports integrity and combating match-fixing.

IBIA is a non-profit organization specialized in integrity and anti-corruption efforts within the licensed betting sector. The event discussed how IBIA operates in monitoring and building its sports integrity reports, as well as the current trends in betting integrity in Brazil and worldwide.

Today we carried out training for our entire team and for the Ministry of Finance team responsible for the integrity side of betting, together with IBIA. This joint effort and knowledge-sharing process are extremely important so that we can, in practice, tackle this problem. Minister André Fufuca gave us this mission, and we are fulfilling it with great dedication,” emphasized Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary for Sports Betting.

The initiative is part of the work plan established under the cooperation agreement signed in May of this year between the Ministry of Sports and IBIA. The goal is to align Brazil with international best practices, strengthening the monitoring and response to sports fraud while ensuring a fair and safe environment for athletes, clubs, fans, and regulated betting operators.

According to Denise Nóbrega, Director of Sports Betting Integrity at the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports (Snaede), sports integrity is a fundamental and non-negotiable pillar that must be protected.

This event, in partnership with IBIA, reinforces the commitment of the Ministry of Sports and the Brazilian Government to fight corruption and ensure a secure and transparent sports betting environment for everyone.

The activity is also part of the schedule of the Working Group (GT) established by Interministerial Ordinance MEsp/MF/MJSP No. 1/2025, which brings together the Ministry of Finance (MF), the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), the Federal Police (PF), and the Ministry of Sports (MEsp) to combat sports result manipulation.
