For FENAE, Caixa's entry into this market represents a worrying deviation from its social mission.
“Caixa’s role is to promote social development, finance homeownership, foster public policies, and serve the most vulnerable population. This measure goes in the opposite direction of its history,” says the president of FENAE, Sergio Takemoto.
Takemoto emphasizes that gambling addiction is a public health issue and that encouraging this type of practice can deepen the debt crisis affecting millions of Brazilian families.
“We already have a significant portion of the population committing a large part of their income to debt and gambling. The creation of a ‘Caixa betting’ could worsen this scenario,” he reinforced.
FENAE also recalls that the issue of gambling addiction is not new and that the entity has taken a critical stance on initiatives that exploit this type of entertainment as a source of revenue.
“It is not the role of a public bank to encourage this type of gambling. Caixa is the patrimony of the Brazilian people and must continue to be an instrument of inclusion and social justice, not of speculation and risk,” the president emphasized.
“The country needs a strengthened Caixa focused on collective well-being, and not an institution that follows market logic, seeking profit at any cost,” Takemoto concluded.
