Paquetá receives a warning and must pay 10% of court costs over match-fixing investigation

The English Football Association (FA) announced this Friday (31) the punishment for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá, of West Ham, for investigations into his alleged involvement in match-fixing in the Premier League. The sanction was a 'reprimand' and a 'warning about future conduct.' The player was also advised to cooperate with future investigations, if necessary.

On July 31, Paquetá was cleared of the most serious charges brought by the FA, which included potential suspension or even a football ban. However, the association had stated at the time that it would still apply a formal sanction.

The Brazilian was not fined, but in addition to the reprimand and warning, he will have to pay 10% of the legal costs, while the FA itself will cover the remaining 90%. The total amount was not disclosed.

Lucas Paquetá was acquitted of misconduct allegations related to sports betting in England. West Ham, the player’s club, released a statement confirming the decision.

West Ham United has noted the documents published by the FA today, confirming that Lucas Paquetá received a warning regarding his future conduct after being found to have breached FA Rule F3, following his acquittal of a breach of FA Rule F5,” the club said.

West Ham United and Lucas Paquetá are pleased that this matter has now been concluded. The club will make no further comment,” the statement added.
