Loterj and AGS meet to strengthen partnership in Rio de Janeiro’s VLT market

The President of Loterj, Hazenclever Lopes Cançado, met with AGS executives to discuss progress in the regulation of Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) in Rio de Janeiro and to reinforce the partnership that promises to transform the concept of lottery gaming with physical machines. The meeting took place in Las Vegas, just before the start of G2E 2025, and brought together David Lopez, CEO of AGS; Marcus Fortunato, VP of AGS Brazil; and Drew Pawlak, VP for Latin America.

Announcing the meeting, Loterj president Hazenclever Lopes Cançado expressed his enthusiasm: “Las Vegas is boiling with innovation, and Rio de Janeiro continues to lead the way!”

His excitement was justified when sitting down with what he called “giants of the industry” — David Lopez, Marcus Fortunato, and Drew Pawlak.

Rio de Janeiro recently regulated the operation of VLTs and gaming kiosks throughout the state, and AGS has played a consistent and strategic role in helping shape the technical and compliance framework for VLT operations in alignment with Loterj’s expectations.

The Loterj president recognized the contribution of the global leader in land-based gaming equipment: “AGS played a fundamental role, providing valuable technical input during the recent VLT regulatory process conducted by Loterj. Their expertise helped us build a solid, modern, and responsible framework for the sector.”

During the meeting, Hazenclever highlighted the enormous potential for job creation and income generation this market represents for the State of Rio de Janeiro, estimating the creation of over 65,000 direct jobs, alongside a transformative social impact.

AGS is already preparing to invest in Rio, confident in the growth of this ecosystem and committed to helping drive the state’s economic development.

That was the main message of our meeting: believe in Rio, invest in Rio!” concluded Hazenclever.
