Procon-SP’s main mission is to balance and harmonize relations between consumers and suppliers. Its goal is to design and implement consumer protection and defense policies in the State of São Paulo.
The meeting in São Paulo was attended on behalf of Procon-SP by Luiz Orsatti (Executive Director), Carina Minc (Executive Advisor), and Alvaro Camilo (Director of Consumer Service and Guidance). Also present were executives from the betting companies Blaze, BetBoom, KingPanda, Stake, Brazino, Sporty, Superbet, Bandbet, Sportingbet, and Seguro Bet.
Compliance and support for regulation
At the meeting, the sector reaffirmed its full commitment to responding to official requests and complying with the regulatory instruction related to the Bolsa Família program.
In addition, continuous initiatives were highlighted to provide best practices in information and to improve operators’ websites, ensuring clarity and safety for consumers.
Strategic collaboration
The importance of joint action in combating the illegal market was emphasized. Among the initiatives presented, the consolidation of a list of payment methods used by unauthorized betting operators stood out as an essential tool to curb illicit practices.
Another relevant topic discussed was the dialogue with Meta to enable WhatsApp as an official customer service channel, which facilitates compliance with the duty of information and speeds up consumer support.
Education and institutional engagement
During the meeting, the creation of a glossary of industry technical terms was proposed, with the aim of making betting language more accessible. The initiative was well received by Procon-SP, and an improved final version will be delivered soon.
In addition, the organization of workshops with Procon-SP’s technical staff was suggested, offering specialized training on market practices and betting terminology.
The sector also made available AMIG’s Responsible Gaming Handbook and videos, which may be shared by Procon-SP on its channels or used as support material to broaden awareness messages.
At the end of the meeting, it was clear that cooperation between the regulated sector and consumer protection agencies is essential to building a safe, fair, and transparent betting environment in Brazil.
Recently, Procon-SP and the São Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB SP) launched the handbook “Consumer Rights in Gaming and Sports Betting.” This joint action aimed to inform, raise awareness, and protect users, encouraging safer and more responsible choices in the rapidly growing Brazilian betting market.
