Daniel Almeida warned that the lack of regulation could encourage abusive practices and consumer indebtedness.
“Betting has been gaining ground in the Brazilian market, demanding that Congress establish regulations that ensure not only legal security but, above all, the protection of consumer rights,” he stated.
According to the Central Bank, Brazilians spent between R$20 billion (US$3.7bn) and R$30 billion (US$5.6bn) per month on online betting between January and August 2024. The study also shows that most bettors are between 20 and 30 years old, and the average monthly amount wagered increases with age.
