With this decision, the player is free of all accusations. He no longer needs the injunction to wear the Flamengo shirt this season. The Plenary’s decision overturns the first-instance ruling of the sports court.
More than the color of the player’s jersey, what was at stake in the tribunal was whether or not an athlete had participated in sports betting — which is prohibited by law in Brazil.
The forward ended up before the court because he allegedly told family members and friends that he would receive a yellow card in the match between Flamengo and Santos during the 2023 Brasileirão. The information was allegedly used by these individuals to place bets and make money. Bruno Henrique has always denied taking part in betting sites or committing any wrongdoing.
Even so, the Prosecutor’s Office charged Bruno Henrique under articles 243 (harming one’s own team) and 243-A (acting to influence the outcome of a match). However, according to the votes cast this Thursday, neither infraction was substantiated.
The player was nonetheless fined R$ 100,000 (US$18,900). The trial lasted just over two hours.
