FanDuel and DraftKings abandon AGA amid growing split over prediction markets

FanDuel and DraftKings have withdrawn from the American Gaming Association (AGA) as tensions escalate over the industry’s shift toward prediction markets, including sports-related event contracts. The move follows rapid growth in platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, which allow trading on political, cultural and sports outcomes.

FanDuel and DraftKings have confirmed they are ending their membership with the American Gaming Association (AGA), citing a divergence between their emerging strategies in prediction markets and the trade body’s current policy direction.

The move follows rapid growth in platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, which allow trading on political, cultural and sports outcomes. The AGA has taken a firm stance against prediction markets offering sports-based contracts and is preparing a resolution that would bar operators with such offerings from membership.

FanDuel last week announced FanDuel Predicts, launching in December with CME, offering sports prediction trades only in states without legal sports betting. “We recognise this direction is not aligned with the American Gaming Association’s current priorities… After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to step back from our AGA membership at this time,” a FanDuel spokesperson said.

DraftKings recently acquired Railbird, a federally licensed event-contracts platform. “As the company’s business strategy evolves, including with prediction markets, DraftKings determined that its plans no longer fully align with the AGA’s direction… and have decided to relinquish its membership,” the company said.

The AGA, representing both commercial and tribal operators, confirmed it had accepted both departures, stating: “We wish them the best, and we expect to maintain close ties to our mission to promote and protect legal, regulated gaming.

Both companies remain active members of the Sports Betting Alliance.
