ANJL assesses that regulation of ‘Bets’ will consolidate and bring legal security to companies

Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), participated this Tuesday (4) in the panel “Dispute for Control: who rules the billion-dollar market in Brazil”, at SiGMA Central Europe. According to him, regulation in Brazil is still in its early stages and it is natural that there will be adjustments. Even so, he stated that it will consolidate and bring legal security to the so-called ‘Bets’.

In his presentation, Plínio Lemos Jorge highlighted that uncertainty in tax regimes could deter investments and compromise the growth of the Brazilian market if not resolved quickly.

The debate, promoted by PayRetailers, also included Tamas Kusztos, CCO of Playson; Stepan Dobrovolskiy, CEO of BetBoom LatAm; Pavel Dergachev, co-founder of 4H Agency; and Alexandre Tomic, founder of Alea.

“The regulation of the betting sector in Brazil is still in its early stages, and it is natural that there are adjustments and challenges in this process. We have a complex federal system, with competencies divided between the Union, states, and municipalities, which requires dialogue and coordination,” stated Plínio Lemos Jorge.

“But we believe that federal regulation will consolidate and bring legal certainty to companies, protection to consumers, and a healthy competitive environment.”

The group discussed ways to balance the sector's great potential for expansion with the tax and regulatory challenges still underway in Brazil.

Plínio also highlighted the importance of preserving the sustainability of the regulated market in the face of proposals that seek to alter the legal agreements established for the formalization of operations in the country.
