Conducted for 20 years, the TIC Domicílios survey maps the use of information and communication technologies and internet usage in Brazil by people over 10 years old. This edition included interviews in 27,177 households and heard from 24,535 people between March and August 2025. It was the first edition to ask about online betting. The survey identified that men bet more than women.
Among internet users who placed bets in the three months prior to the survey, 25% were men and 14% were women.
It also showed that:
- 8% of Brazilians placed bets in online casinos;
- 7% paid to participate in digital raffles or draws;
- 7% placed sports bets on websites or apps (“bets”) – this group shows the largest difference between women and men: among women, the rate is 2%, while among men it reaches 12%;
- 7% placed bets in the federal lottery.
“What we see is a very alarming number: we have around 30 million people over the age of 10 who have already made some type of online bet,” said Renata Mielli, coordinator of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), which released the survey.
According to her, this and other data collected reinforce the need to create regulatory mechanisms and expand Brazilians’ digital education on the risks of online gambling and betting.
Internet access also increased inside homes: 86% of households have internet, compared to 51% ten years ago.
Offline
According to the survey, Brazil has 28 million non-internet users. This group includes mainly people with only primary education, those who identify as Black or Brown, and those aged 60 or older.
The survey also revealed that:
- 75% of Brazilians made payments or transfers via Pix;
- 39% ran out of mobile data at least once in the three months prior to the survey;
- 56% accessed or asked someone to access Gov.br to complete a public service;
- 32% used some generative AI tool. Of these, 84% used it for personal purposes, 53% for school studies, and 50% for professional activities.
