Bill creating the Acre State Lottery approved by joint committees of the Legislative Assembly

Acre Governor Gladson Camelí submitted a bill to the State Legislative Assembly proposing the creation of the Acre State Lottery, with the aim of using the service as a revenue-generating instrument to fund key priorities for Acrean society. Under an accelerated legislative process, the proposal was reviewed by the Assembly’s joint committees on Wednesday (17), when adjustments deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the model were also discussed.

According to state deputy Eduardo Ribeiro (PSD), the bill’s rapporteur, the lottery is expected to deliver direct benefits to the population by promoting social development within the state.

“This project ensures that lottery activities are carried out with social responsibility and transparency, with statutory oversight and in compliance with principles for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing,” he said.

The lawmaker also drew a comparison with the online betting market. “Unlike bets, where revenue is collected and it is often unclear where the money goes, the lottery allows resources to remain within the state and be used for the direct benefit of the population,” he stated.

During discussions, lawmakers identified healthcare as one of the main sectors to benefit from the lottery’s revenue, with particular emphasis on mental health care, including treatment and support for individuals with gambling addiction.

The bill was approved by the committees and will move forward for further debate, during which the percentage allocation of funds to each designated sector will be defined. These sectors include sports development, public health, education, culture, social security and other areas.

The document submitted by the Executive Branch establishes that the organization and operation of the Acre State Lottery will be detailed in future regulations, with the government responsible for issuing supplementary rules to ensure full implementation of the law.

Acre will be allowed to operate all lottery modalities authorized at the national level, and the bill stipulates that only individuals over the age of 18 may participate. The lottery may operate through both physical and digital channels, provided activities remain within the state’s territorial limits.
