Neymar Jr. earns US$64,000 at poker event bearing his name

BSOP ONE Neymar Jr. Edition is a partnership between the football star and BSOP, the Brazilian Series of Poker. In its first tournament, held this Thursday (18), the player delivered a strong performance and finished in fourth place, taking home R$350,000 (US$64,000).

The 100K Super High Roller, the tournament Neymar competed in, required a R$100,000 (US$18,000) buy-in and featured 32 participants. The invitation-only event awarded around R$3 million (US$545,000) in total prize money, with the champion earning R$1 million (US$181,000).

One of the sport’s biggest enthusiasts, Neymar Jr. gave an interview hours before the tournament and explained why he enjoys this mind sport so much.

“In poker, once you start to understand what it really means, you fall in love with the game, because so many things are involved when you’re at the table. It’s not a game of luck, it’s a game of skill. Your mind has to be strong, you need to stay focused and pay attention to details that can make a difference.”

Asked about how it feels to be taking part in the BSOP ONE Neymar Jr. Edition, he expressed his excitement. “I’m very happy, I feel flattered and honored to be part of BSOP. Rafa [Rafael Moraes, BSOP’s CEO] is one of my best friends, and he gave me this amazing gift. It’s another unique BSOP event, and we’re going to enjoy it a lot.”

Also competing in the event is his partner, Bruna Biancardi. The star joked about it: “I think I am [the reason she’s playing], because I play all the time. She has to learn, otherwise she’ll be left out [laughs].”

Finally, the PokerStars ambassador, one of BSOP’s sponsors, said: “I hope that, with the influence I have, I can bring more and more people to this wonderful game.”

The BSOP ONE Neymar Jr. Edition takes place at Hotel Unique, in São Paulo, on December 18 and 19.

In addition to the notable presence of the Santos star, the event will feature performances by Léo Santana, the group Jeito Moleque, and singer Erick Jordan.

Cris Guedes, Toguro, Bruna Unzueta, and professional footballer Nenê are among the other celebrities attending the event, whose matches can be followed live on BSOP’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
