The initiative was implemented across key dates of the event – from the SiGMA Awards and the BiS SiGMA Awards to the BiS SiGMA Official Celebration. Central to the program are two scheduled daily waste collections, ensuring efficient separation and responsible disposal of materials throughout the venue.
Five dedicated environmental agents will be on-site each day, overseeing collection points and delivering real-time reports. This hands-on approach allows for continuous improvement in waste handling and provides transparency in environmental accountability.
A standout element of Sou Resíduo Zero is its commitment to composting. Organic waste from catering services and attendee activities will be transformed into nutrient-rich compost, diverting significant volumes from landfills. The initiative also addresses one of the most common pollutants at public events – cigarette butts – by introducing a recycling system that converts them into reusable materials.
More than just a cleanup effort, the project embodies BiS SiGMA Americas’ commitment to ESG values. The program not only reduces the event’s environmental footprint but also educates and engages participants in sustainable practices.
By integrating environmental responsibility into every facet of the experience, BiS SiGMA Americas is redefining what it means to host a sustainable event — and setting a powerful example for the future of conferences and celebrations across the region.
Long-term sustainability in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala

The community also benefited from the donation of a plastic baling machine to aid in recycling efforts and environmental sustainability.
The ‘Sou Residuo Zero’ program
Describing itself as a movement, the program’s main objectives include; promoting the zero waste concept by engaging individuals, companies and governments, reducing C02 emissions and waste generation by avoiding, reusing, and recycling, and spotlighting companies that stand out for their good practices.
