In a note sent to Metrópoles, the defense claims that the athlete from the Rio de Janeiro club is known and respected for his simplicity and commitment to the sport and that Bruno Henrique has never been involved in betting schemes.
“On the contrary, he believes that the betting business should be subject to increasing restrictions by the authorities. The distortions that are being caused by the interpretation and improper dissemination of private messages, out of context, will be clarified during the course of the proceedings,” says the defense in a note.
Bruno Henrique was indicted last week by the Federal Police for fraud in a sports competition and fraud.
Investigators found on the cell phone of Bruno Henrique's brother, a Flamengo striker, an exchange of messages that implicate the player and place him directly linked to the betting scheme.
The Federal Police analyzed 3,989 conversations on Bruno Henrique's WhatsApp, many of which were empty or deleted — which, according to investigators, may indicate that the attacker deleted part of the records.
However, the agents seized the cell phone of the player's brother, Wander Nunes Pinto Júnior, and identified dialogues that show Bruno Henrique's involvement in the scheme to receive a yellow card during a match against Santos, valid for the 2023 Brazilian Championship.
Unpublished messages implicate Bruno Henrique's mother in a betting scheme
New messages revealed by the Fantástico program, on Rede Globo, this Sunday (0), show conversations between Bruno Henrique's brother, Wander Nunes Pinto Junior, and his and Bruno Henrique's parents.
He spoke to his mother about the difficulty he had in opening new accounts to place bets, and they exchanged personal data that could be used for new registrations.
Several betting slips were also sent by Wander for his mother to pay.
There are also messages exchanged with the player's father about the alleged scheme. Bruno Henrique's parents, however, have not been indicted by the Federal Police, but the investigation is ongoing.
The Federal District Public Prosecutor's Office will decide whether or not to charge Bruno Henrique to the courts. This Sunday, his defense spoke for the first time.
The striker was indicted by the Federal Police (PF) last week, along with 10 other people, in an investigation into fraud in a sports competition.
Investigators found messages on Wander's cell phone that implicate the player and place him directly involved in the betting scheme.
