On Thursday (8) last week, councilor Isac Silveira, leader of Mayor Emília Corrêa in the Aracaju City Council, had the approval, in the first vote, of the Complementary Bill No. 6/2025, which proposes the creation of the Aracaju Municipal Lottery, called Locaju.
The initiative foresees the implementation of a public lottery service within the municipality, with revenue directed to essential areas such as health, education, social assistance, sports, leisure and culture.
The proposal represents an important strategy to strengthen municipal revenue, with the potential to generate millions of reais in revenue for Aracaju. It is a modern and effective tool to facilitate investments in public policies, offering citizens services with greater quality and reach.
During the session, councilman Isac Silveira highlighted that the creation of Locaju follows a growing trend throughout the country, in cities such as Campinas, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Lagarto and Nossa Senhora do Socorro.
“This is a war for resources. The Union wants them for itself, but so do the municipalities. The State here was quick, it has already guaranteed them, and we are still diverging on whether or not it can. We are ensuring that Aracaju can install its municipal lottery and effectively bring resources to health, education, social assistance, sports and leisure. To foster culture, we need resources,” he stated.
The mayor of Aracaju, Emília Corrêa, has already signaled that she intends to sanction the project as soon as it is approved in a second vote. According to Isac Silveira, Locaju is a direct and innovative response to the needs of public policy financing in the municipality.
