To combat match-fixing in Brazil

Sports Ministry signs integrity agreements with Genius Sports, Sportradar and other entities

In another step towards regulating the sports betting sector in Brazil, the Ministry of Sports has signed Cooperation Agreements (ACs) with five entities specializing in monitoring and integrity in the sector: Genius Sports, Sportradar, Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Betting and Fantasy Sport Association (ABFS).

The partnerships aim to prevent and combat match-fixing, fraud, and other practices that compromise sports integrity. With this initiative, the Ministry of Sports seeks to align Brazil with international best practices and ensure a fair and safe environment for athletes, clubs, fans, and regulated betting operators.

“We are signing today a milestone in the fight against match-fixing in Brazilian sports. Integrity must be a constant voice when it comes to transparency, ethics, and, above all, the fairness of sports results. With these agreements, we will have more than enough tools to curb this practice and enable greater transparency in sports competitions,” said Minister of Sports André Fufuca.

The partner organizations already operate in countries such as Canada, England, and Australia. According to Giovanni Rocco Neto, National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, the partnerships will support the Ministry's activities and help fight fraud, particularly match-fixing.

“The signing of agreements with companies specialized in sports integrity is fundamentally important to strengthening trust and transparency in competitions. These companies have the necessary technology to monitor betting, detect suspicious patterns, and prevent match manipulation,” Rocco emphasized.

How it will work

In practice, after the agreements are signed, the companies will provide qualified information, methodologies, and technological support regarding the betting market to the Ministry of Sports, as well as train the professionals responsible for monitoring activities in the sports betting sector.

“We will contribute not only by sharing intelligence information and reports on suspicious matches but also by educating public servants and athletes about the Brazilian landscape. With our expertise, we will support the Brazilian State in building a national policy to combat match-fixing,” said Felipe Marchetti, Sportradar's Director of Integrity for Latin America.

"As a global leader in integrity, using cutting-edge technology to prevent and combat match-fixing, we believe that protecting competitions requires coordinated action between the public and private sectors. Through this collaboration, Sportradar continues to reaffirm its commitment to a more transparent and secure sports environment for athletes, and everyone involved in Brazilian sports," said Andreas Krannich, Executive Vice President of Integrity and Regulatory Services at Sportradar.

For Genius Sports’ Head of Integrity, Tiago Horta, the partnership consolidates cooperation between the public and private sectors in combating potential fraud and manipulation.

“This is an extremely serious issue, and solving it requires the involvement of multiple sectors. It is impossible to address it solely through the isolated efforts of the government, the private sector, or sports organizations. It must be a joint effort. This agreement was created precisely to help build a strong framework to fight match-fixing in Brazilian sports,” he said.

The agreements will last for 60 months (5 years), and similar mechanisms may be established in the future. The first workshop will take place today, May 15, and will include the participation of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, a recent partner with whom Sportradar has also signed an ACT.
