Until June

CPI of ‘Bets’ will be extended for 45 days

The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry investigating the use of online betting companies for money laundering (CPI of ‘Bets’) will have its work extended for 45 days. With this, the CPI will operate until June. The request was read this Wednesday (30) by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, and will be published so that it can produce its effects.

The president of the CPI, Senator Dr. Hiran, is the author of the request for extension. Without him, the CPI would have to end its activities this Wednesday. The parliamentarian had requested that the Commission continue for another 130 days, but was unable to extend the deadline for more than 45 days.

At the request of the CPI rapporteur, Senator Soraya Thronicke, Alcolumbre had already announced on Tuesday (29) that he would grant the extra time. The 45-day deadline was agreed with the president of the Commission and with the leaders.

Soraya was requesting a 130-day extension, arguing that in February the CPI's activities were suspended for 63 days.

Last Tuesday (29), a rapporteur ordered the arrest of businessman Daniel Pardim Tavares Lima, partner of Peach Blossom River Technology, which owns another company called Payflow, which operates in the payments sector of the iGaming sector.

He was charged with the crime of false testimony during his hearing at the CPI of ‘Bets’. According to the senators, Lima denied information considered true by the parliamentarians, which warranted his arrest.

On the same day, he managed to release him to jail with the payment of bail of R$1,500 (US$265), which was reportedly transferred by the businessman's family.
