Exemption for salaries up to US$900

Workers' Party launches campaign calling for taxation of 'BBB': billionaires, banks and ‘Bets’

Inspired by the acronym popularized by the TV Globo reality show Big Brother Brasil, the Workers' Party (known as PT) launched this Thursday (26) a video campaign defending the taxation of “BBB” -billionaires, banks and ‘Bets’ - as a way to finance the exemption from Income Tax for those who earn up to R$5,000 US$900 per month. According to the creator of the proposal, the party's Communications Secretary, Jilmar Tatto, there will be around five videos shown on PT channels.

The proposal is part of the party's strategy to support the Lula government's project, which will be analyzed by Congress in the second half of the year. In the video, the PT argues that the wealthiest sectors of society should contribute more to enable a fairer tax policy for the low-income population.

According to the party's Communications Secretary, Jilmar Tatto, around five videos will be released on PT's social networks. The action reinforces the government's discourse that it is necessary to reduce privileges and increase tax justice as part of a commitment to social justice.

At the same time, the Lula government is also preparing its own campaign to promote the proposal for income tax exemption.

On the PT website, the text of the new campaign advocates tax justice with income tax exemption for those who earn up to R$5,000 (US$900) and more taxes for the super rich.

The campaign draws attention to the new Income Tax model proposed by the Lula government, which could exempt more than 20 million Brazilians. The measure reduces the burden on family budgets, injects more than R$10 billion (US$1.8bn) into the economy and strengthens consumption, trade and job creation.
