SPA and Federal Revenue Service extend term of ‘Bets’ Working Group

The Secretaries of the Federal Revenue Service and Prizes and Betting (SPA), Robinson Barreirinhas and Regis Dudena, respectively, decided to extend the term of the ‘Bets’ Working Group until next September. The WG was created at the beginning of the year to monitor the gaming and betting sector's tax compliance and identify possible illegal activities by unauthorized companies. It was scheduled to end in July.

Joint Ordinance RFB/SPA No. 3, which established the 'Bets' Working Group, outlined the group’s mission to oversee compliance with authorization requirements and to investigate potential links between unauthorized 'Bets' and crimes such as money laundering.

The WG was also tasked with drafting a compliance program proposal to regularize outstanding tax obligations related to the pre-regulation period of the sector.

The group’s mandate includes supporting the Federal Revenue’s enforcement efforts and proposing a dedicated channel for information sharing between the agencies, within legal and confidentiality limits.

The 'Bets' Working Group is composed of three representatives, appointed by the Federal Revenue’s Subsecretariat for Auditing, the General Coordination for Research and Investigation, and the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting.

Initially planned to last six months, the working group’s term could be extended at the secretaries’ discretion. Due to challenges in finalizing interim and conclusive reports, the officials deemed it appropriate to approve the extension.
