Lotep creates Responsible Gaming Commission to strengthen regulation and society protection

The Paraíba State Lottery (Lotep) established the Responsible Gaming Commission (CJR) through Ordinance No. 022, aiming to strengthen public policies focused on education, prevention, and oversight in the gaming and betting sector in the state. The initiative aims to protect Paraíba society against the risks of lack of control and to monitor best practices adopted for the sector.

The initiative follows the growth and regulation of the betting market in Brazil and marks another step by Lotep in consolidating sustainable and safe practices in the lottery and gaming environment.

The commission will be permanent and composed of representatives from the technical, legal, regulatory, communications, and social assistance areas of the agency.

Among the commission’s responsibilities are the development of educational campaigns about the risks of problem gambling, the creation of informative materials, collaboration with institutions that support vulnerable individuals, and the monitoring of national and international best practices on the topic.

This is a strategic and necessary action that places Paraíba among the states that act with seriousness and responsibility in regulating the sector,” emphasized Lotep's superintendent, Francisco Petrônio de Oliveira Rolim.

The Commission will propose educational measures, monitor market practices, and ensure that gambling authorized by Lotep is a safe, transparent activity with a positive social impact,” Rolim added.

The CJR also emerges in response to the need to ensure that the sector’s growth takes place with responsibility, transparency, and legal security for all stakeholders—operators, bettors, and public authorities.

According to the Commission’s president, Graziele Batista Maia Malheiros, the creation of the CJR represents an important step forward in how the State is addressing the expansion of the gaming sector.

Our commitment is to ensure that this market grows responsibly, placing the bettor at the center of the action, with information, protection, and support channels. We will work based on data, qualified listening, and proven experiences to build a public policy for Responsible Gambling focused on citizen empowerment,” she stated.

The creation of the Responsible Gambling Commission aligns with the guidelines of national and international gaming regulatory bodies and is part of the initiatives celebrating Lotep’s 70th anniversary in 2025, with a focus on strengthening the institution and protecting the people of Paraíba.

The Paraíba State Lottery (Lotep) is a state agency linked to the State Department of Finance (Sefaz-PB), responsible for managing, regulating, and overseeing gaming and lottery activities in the state of Paraíba.

Operating in compliance with federal regulations, Lotep acts directly and through partnerships to promote social well-being and support programs in key areas such as social assistance, health, sports, education, culture, and public safety, in accordance with State Decree No. 41.037/2021 and State Law No. 12.703/2023.

Founded on April 2, 1955, Lotep celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025 with the core mission of promoting legal and responsible gambling, ensuring legal security for bettors and lottery operators, and guaranteeing that the benefits generated are widely distributed, contributing to the progress and quality of life of the people of Paraíba.
