On July 14, a public notice was published calling for the Ordinary General Assembly to be held on August 6, with the aim of officially founding the union. The meeting will also ratify the bylaws and elect the first executive board. Only companies with proven operations in the State of São Paulo will be allowed to participate.
SINDIBETS/SP was created to fill a gap in union representation specific to fixed-odds betting operations. Its mission is to offer legal support and foster dialogue between employers and employees — not to focus on regulatory advocacy, but to protect the labor specificities of this rapidly expanding market.
GMB - How did SINDIBETS/SP come to life?
Ana Clara Barros – The idea originally came from an informal conversation among AMIGs (friends in the industry), but gained momentum when we started receiving inquiries from various unions which, according to an opinion by labor law expert Dr. Nathalia Trevilato Pilorz (consultant to the Jackpot Group in Brazil), lacked the legal standing to represent our activities.
With the help of AIGAMING, we brought in Dr. Carla Blanco to shape the initiative. Initially, Ana Bárbara Teixeira, Bárbara Teles, and I led the efforts until Laura Morganti’s support — which was the missing piece — helped the idea truly take off. At that point, we already had five founding companies on board.
We honestly didn’t expect so much interest. Before launching the project, we had tried to gather support through several forums, but the initial response was muted. That’s why we’re so pleased with how many companies have shown interest along the way. The creation of the union demonstrates how much stronger, more united, and more aware our sector has become of its own unique needs.
What is the main mission of the union?
Bárbara Teles – The purpose is to secure representation for an industry that didn’t have it before — encouraging unity and focusing on labor-related discussions, especially considering that this sector generates thousands of jobs. SINDIBETS is not intended to be another entity lobbying for regulation, but rather the guardian of the labor issues unique to this segment.
Will SINDIBETS/SP operate only in São Paulo?
Laura Morganti – Legally, the union can only operate within the jurisdiction of the state where it was created. Therefore, SINDIBETS/SP will act solely within the State of São Paulo.
What are the requirements for a company to become a member?
Laura Morganti – Any company wishing to join must be a fixed-odds betting operator authorized by the SPA/MF and must have verifiable operations in the State of São Paulo.
What are the immediate benefits of joining?
Ana Clara Barros – The main benefit is having proper union representation specifically tailored to the fixed-odds betting industry.
Will SINDIBETS/SP provide legal, regulatory, or technical support?
Bárbara Teles – As is standard for employers’ unions, we will provide legal support and assistance on relevant issues to our category.
Will there be permanent working groups on topics like Responsible Gaming or AML?
Laura Morganti – SINDIBETS/SP does not aim to become another forum for regulatory debate in gaming and betting. While regulation is indeed critical, our union’s working groups will focus on labor-related issues concerning both employers and employees.
Will the union engage with other organizations like AMIG or IBJR?
Bárbara Teles – Absolutely. Our goal is to promote a plurality of ideas and engage in productive dialogue on important topics for both the industry and society. SINDIBETS/SP is always open to working with any institution that reaches out.
