ANJL debates balance between competitiveness and compliance in the sector at Bet Summit

The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) is present at the second edition of the Bet Summit this Tuesday (8) at the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena, in Brasília. Its president, Plínio Lemos Jorge, will be one of the speakers on the panel “Taxation in the betting sector: balance between competitiveness and compliance,” a highly relevant topic for the industry, which has been the target of initiatives that converge towards increasing the tax burden on operators.

In addition to the Provisional Measure issued in June by the Federal Government, which raised the tax on GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue) for betting operators from 12% to 18%, a bill is still under discussion in the National Congress that will define the rate of the Selective Tax (IS), established in January this year by Complementary Law 214, stemming from the Tax Reform.

Both measures create a challenging scenario for the industry, as they may put the regulated market at risk if Brazil enforces an excessive tax burden.

"In any economic sector, taxation is one of the most important factors influencing investors' and entrepreneurs’ decisions regarding setting up and expanding their businesses in a country. The betting sector is no different. Given the current situation, this debate will be important to highlight the need for Brazil to maintain a favorable business environment and legal certainty for betting operators who wish to operate here," says Plínio Lemos Jorge, who has a long-standing career in Tax Law.

Leonardo Benites, ANJL’s communications director, will also participate in the Bet Summit. He will moderate the panel "Speakers in the Arena: Gamification and the New Generation of Users."

"Now, with a regulated market in Brazil, the challenges for all operators go beyond acquisition. It’s necessary to engage and build relationships with customers. Gamification emerges as a key tool to foster the relationship between the customer and the brand," summarizes Leonardo.

Launched in March 2023, the National Association of Gaming and Lotteries (ANJL) advocates for the interests of its members, the industry, and responsible, ethical gaming, always guided by the promotion of sports, safe betting practices, and contributing to the country's economic development.

Its members include NSX Brasil, Big Brazil e Loteria, Aposta Ganha Loterias, Fast Gaming, OiG Gaming Brazil, Ana Gaming Brasil, Esportes Gaming Brasil, SPRBT Interactive Brasil, Defy, LBBR, Lucky Gaming, Reals Brasil, Gamewiz Brasil, Clear Sale, Paag, Pocket Games, Propane, Astro, Zero Instituição de Pagamento, Microcash, Betbr, Pagstar, TransferSmile, Hiper Bet Tecnologia, SorteNaBet Gaming Brasil, and Versus Brasil.
