Endless opportunities with the gaming sector

São Paulo hotels discuss opening sports bars with legal 'Bets' and the future of casinos in Brazil

This week, São Paulo’s luxury hospitality sector discussed the opportunities in the gaming, lottery, and casino markets - both in the city and across Brazil. The event, organized by the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau (SPCVB), featured a keynote presentation by Bruno Omori, president of IDT-Cema, on the topic.

During the meeting of the Visite SP Committee for Luxury Hotels, Bruno Omori’s lecture—“Opportunities for luxury hospitality with casinos, sports bars featuring 'Bets'/online gaming, bingo halls, and lotteries”—captured attention with its insights into the limitless potential hotels can tap into with the regulation of online gaming and the anticipated legalization of land-based casinos in Brazil.

The talk and subsequent discussions, which included executives from hotels and luxury hotel chains operating throughout São Paulo and Brazil, explored these opportunities. Among them was the creation of high-end sports bars in partnership with legalized 'Bets', establishing new and differentiated points of sale with additional revenue-sharing models, increased foot traffic, and higher food & beverage consumption.

Bruno Omori presented forecasts tied to the future legalization of land-based gambling in Brazil through Bill 2234/2022, projecting US$ 70 billion in potential investments into the country.

According to him, Brazil’s luxury hospitality sector could play a strategic role in branding, adapting to operate within the land-based gaming segment, and boosting luxury tourism demand—enhancing travel destinations across the country.

Omori also addressed the emerging potential of state and municipal lotteries, which may further drive tourism. He highlighted how these initiatives could lead to the development of premium, differentiated points of sale in regions where laws have been approved, especially through strategic partnerships with international lottery operators with expertise in the luxury market.
